Behind The Scenes : The Crucible : From the Wings

This "View from the Wings" post allows us to share with you what the actors, backstage and technical crew experience.

The wings are the areas that are part of the stage but are offstage and out of sight of the audience. The space is used for performers preparing to enter, storage of sets for scenery changes and as a stagehand working area. The wings in the Garrison are not very wide resulting in quite an intimate space.

A similar passage of the play downstage right
Note the marks on the floor for the placing of furniture, each
Act is a different colour

Another scene from Act 1 mid tabs

A scene from Act 2 The Proctors Home
which required a larger amount of furniture and props

Act 4 from downstage left

The amazing film which played on the screens behind the stage set

It can get busy during scene changes with backstage crew waiting to get onto the stage and actors trying to get off ..... all in the dark!

Getting on stage .....
clear walking lines marked out for cast and crew

Waiting in the wings to go on

The Crucible required an immense amount of focus and emotional acting with
time needed in the wings before going onstage to compose oneself and to concentrate
on character and lines
