Behind the Scenes : I Remember Mama : Backstage

Our Behind the Scenes blog posts are very popular, and we are pleased to be able to share with you some moments Behind the Scenes during I Remember Mama.

The play was not easy to stage having a huge cast and a large number of scenes. However, David Grieve's stage set along with Keith Morrison's lighting design ensured that the action was seamless.

Morag Mouat (Director) commented that Keith's lighting design showed the change of both scene and mood while David's set design allowed the audience to understand that while the scenes were linked, they were also completely separate.

The family home where most of the action took place. Shorter scenes took place in the lower area in front of the room.

There were also a huge number of props (including a significant number of cups and saucers!) which necessitated a table both Stage Right and Stage Left.

Waiting to go on in the wings with the telephone is Donna Marie Leask (Trina). Note the bed stacked behind her in the wings.

By the time Jennie Atkinson (Yessie) went on stage in Act 2 the wings were empty as there was a bedroom set within the room set which required a fair bit of ducking and diving under flats to get on to the stage.
