Blue Stockings Behind the Scenes : Period Hairstyles

Last Saturday saw the final performance of our period play Blue Stockings written by Jessica Swale and directed and produced by Stephenie Pagulayan. We can now share some of the Behind the Scenes photographs and the talent of our fabulous team.

We were absolutely delighted to be joined by Lynn Goudie Cummings and Tegan Johnstone of Studio 4  for this production. Their talent in styling period hair was awesome and they made a huge contribution to the play and our characterisations.  Here Lynn is styling Edwards (Sonny Thompson's) hair ready for the waxing, Ralph (Isaac Webb) and Holmes (Daniel Inkster) look on.

It was a tough call for Lynn and Tegan to have us all ready in an hour - both the ladies dressing room and the men's. Here Tess (Sula Brookes) in mid style.

Not all hair was "up" and Lynn spent a lot of time sourcing styles for the period. Here Maeve (Lydia Hay) is getting the ringlet treatment!

Not all of us had hair for the period and Lynn managed to source some fantastic wigs which we have now ready for use in further productions. Tegan is securing Mrs Welsh's (Morag Mouat) wig which had to withstand a fall on the stage. In the background Lynn is working on Celia's (Cara Leask) own hair.

Lynn and Tegan's time was spread between both dressing rooms! Lloyd (Reece Paul) getting the Edwardian look.

Some of the wigs sourced by Lynn which she then styled for the individual characters. These were relatively cheap modern wigs but which looked fabulous once she had styled them.

We sincerely hope we are able to work with Lynn and Tegan again.
