Ali Baba : Behind the Scenes : Wardrobe

The one thing about panto is you can go over the top with costumes, so tonight we are shining the spotlight on our wonderful costume creators.

We are indebted to a large number of wonderful people who sew, crochet, alter and generally support anything we do with costumes.

We are lucky to have a large wardrobe base of costumes collected over many years and we do try to utilise as much as possible but alterations, changes and additions do have to be made and sometimes on a large scale - we had 14 members in the Chorus this year!

It is about all the little details of colour, texture and additional scarves and bangles!
And not forgetting shoes!

The team is led by Fiona Smith (on the left with Martine Hall) and very often they are working in extremely cramped spaces given the size and volume of some of the costumes. Ali Baba calls for some pretty specific eastern looking costumes too.

So here are a few of their wonderful makes:

Dame Rhum Baba and her many frocks!

And not forgetting also her wig ! the finale always calls for something special .....

The Grand Vizier and Gene

The Sultan

Fairy Flitter Flatter

Walter the Narrator in Training

Ali Baba and Princess Sheherezade

The Awanta Gang!

And then the Chorus who had four separate costumes as courtiers, villages and thieves.

Courtiers recycled from Sinbad the Sailor (2012)

Thieves!

Villagers

Thank you to our wonderful creative wardrobe team!
