Thrill of Love : Behind the Scenes : Wardrobe and Make Up

Tonight we are turning the spotlight onto wardrobe and make up.

As the play was set in 1955 we had to ensure (as with props and sounds) that everything related to the period. We are very lucky to have an extensive wardrobe and within it all the costumes we needed to create the right era, even though they might not have come from that era.

Martine, supported by Fiona, dressed both the main characters and the Ensemble. The Ensemble were the Club Girls (or men) and were dressed in black and white but in very formal outfits befitting the scene.

Some of the costumes were from the period including this wonderful dress worn by Morag (Sylvia).

There were not many costume changes in terms of dresses, but accessories in terms of jackets, hats and bags were really important and many were from the 1950s.

These fabulous shoes were worn by Donna Marie (Ruth) throughout the performance.

The men's dressing room was no different. Although Barnum was the only male in the production he had many props and accessories and he had these laid out in his dressing room for each night of the production.

Make up and hair was equally important and ideas were pinned around the dressing room for the cast and Ensemble to follow.
